Jessica L.
McElveen, age
13, an
eighth-grade
student at Flat
Rock Middle
School in Tyrone
was diagnosed
with a rare
pediatric cancer
during the 2007
Christmas
holidays.
Doctors at
Scottish Rite
Hospital
provided a
diagnosis of
Desmoplastic
Small Round Cell
Tumor (DSRCT), a
rare cancer
where no
treatment
protocol has
been
established. In
order to
maintain a
functional
quality of
living, Jessica
requested a less
confining
treatment method
of Chemotherapy
that is
administered on
a daily basis at
home and
requires one
weekly visit to
the Scottish
Rite Children’s
Hospital in
Atlanta. It is
our prayer that
this treatment
will sustain
Jessica as we
continue our
search for a
better treatment
method. Jessica
continues to
have a positive
attitude as she
fights this
disease.
We wish to
convey our
heartfelt
appreciation to
the Scottish
Rite Children’s
Hospital doctors
and staff,
family
physicians, our
home church
(Sandy Creek
Baptist Church),
friends,
neighbors,
community
churches, and
the United
Community Bank
for their
support and
prayers. In no
way could we
ever overlook
(or thank
enough) the
support from the
Principal, Staff
and Students at
Flat Rock Middle
School. Words do
so little in
thanking you for
so much.
Flat Rock Middle
School made it
possible for
this website to
be available for
anyone desiring
to inquire on
Jessica’s
condition or
provide support
and
encouragement.
We ask that you
continue to keep
Jessica in your
thoughts and
prayers.
